The Sun is A Shining to Welcome the Day... 18-19 April 2009

The Deenery with the red acer, the magnolia stellata, narcissus and tulips in front of it

Well, can you believe it? 2 days sunshine on the trot! Amazing. However, today I've been in the dumps in spite of it. Ah well, it'll pass. Yesterday, I took photos so I will post those instead.

The Black Tulip have almost arrived

This one's almost out. The heads are smaller than last year. I will have to feed them

I love the bright lime green of this acer's new leaves as they unfurl

The leaves of this acer shine gloriously in the evening sun. It is in fact a darker purple than it looks here.

This pretty tree is on the arboretum, below is the blossom, close up

This blossom is from a tiny little cherry tree!

The gorse is still looking amazing, especially in the sunshine against the blue sky

In the orchard, the cherry blossom is fully out

and the pear looks a picture

This is a Whitebeam. Jim planted it recently, although we had it in a pot to strengthen it until now.

Did someone mention tulips? These are in the arboretum bed. I love their colour and got a bit carried away photographing them!

This is a miniature willow tree, it's covered in 'pussy willow'. You can judge the size from the forget-me-nots alongside and the fading daffodils behind.

Will the Judas Tree blossom ever materialise?

BlackJack followed me about as usual

This cream tulip had a surprise - a red splash

Heuchera leaves all fresh and new

Narcissus and tulips

This tulip from above looks like a star fish

I think that's enough for one day. I'll post some more next time. It's 4.30am. Can't sleep.

OOOOOOH BT, What a beautiful sight! You are my favorite gardener.

BT, is that a mole in the previous post. I've read that there are no moles in ireland. Is that true? What is that then?

Thanks Rachel.

Thanks, Weaver. I was wondering if I'd find time to post them!

Chris, I am so glad you liked that ATC. I had another ready for you but when you commented on that one, I swapped it. It shines, doens't it? I'm so glad you are better, too. What a wonderful thing blogging is. Ireland and Oregon connected in a second. Amazing.

BT again what a visual extravaganza! You are most definitely a very interesting woman. I love your decades!

BT said...

Oh Ces, I've just had to go back through and find out what you mean about moles. No, it's not a mole, it's a vole!! Or a shrew, more likely. Shrews are really tiny, smaller than moles and don't dig like moles. They also have tiny pointy noses, if you click on the picture you can see. Moles also have splayed out front feet for digging.

Jim isn't sure about moles. We don't have them here as we're on rock and the mole wouldn't be able to dig. We will investigate further..... We don't have snakes, that's for sure.

Aha, Ces, the oracle upstairs - he say in Ireland we don't have moles, only bank voles and pygmy shrews. Our little fellow is a pygmy shrew. It says you don't see them often as they are very shy but we see them all the time when the cat catches them!!

Stampmaiden, I'm so glad you enjoyed the Deenery tour! The whole garden is bursting. I brought Jim some white pom pom dahlia corms to plant from the UK. They'll be a while before they flower.

soulbrush, so glad you liked the ATCs. I liked the little dog too! We must do it again. I am happier now. It comes and goes.

Thanks DK. I'll look at your photos tomorrow, must go to bed.
