Bye Bye BlackJack

BlackJack as a kitten, December 2007.

Just a quick post today. BlackJack, our 3 year old black and white cat, had to be put down yesterday. The crystals in his bladder hadn't shifted and he also had stones in there and eventually he couldn't wee at all, so he was in pain. The last day and night he kept crying and had stopped purring. Jim and I took him to the vets, who agreed there was nothing further to be done for him. I held and stroked him and the vet was very kind and gave him a sedative first. He was only 3 but was very friendly and home loving and we miss him. Poor Sandy doesn't know what to do with himself as they've been together since birth. He has given us a lot of pleasure in his short life and we did all we could for him.

We buried BlackJack in our rose garden, where a rose had died and we will buy a new one to put on top of him.

On a happier note, it's Jim's 65th birthday on March 6th and we are going to Athens next Thursday (from the UK, where we go on Tuesday) for a few days, which should be lovely. I have never been. Jim's been before and it was his choice to re-visit.

Crafts

I have made 3 bookmarks and 2 Artist Trading Cards for a swap:

And the ATCs:

The theme was 'Spring' as I hope you can see!

So that's about it for now. I'm off into the garden as the sun is shining.

Poor Black Jack - you'll all miss him. We had to have our old cat put down a couple of months ago but at least he was 18. You'll have to make a doll for Sandy to cuddle up to. Happy Birthday to Jim for next week and enjoy your trip. Love your crafty bits.

I'm very sorry for your loss, what a wonderful idea to bury his body in the garden and mark that spot with a rosebush. We do love our pets. Happy Birthday Jim!

How sad Gina with such a young cat - still if he was in pain it was the kindest thing to do. Have sown your aquelegia seeds today!

So sorry to hear about BlackJack :( Grumplestiltskin has suffered with the same problem his whole life, it costs a fortune to stay on top of it but I think he is worth every pound and I am grateful that we found out he had it before it was too late. I know we are lucky. xo

I have just found your blog today .A sad day for you having to wake up knowing that some thing isn't right even before you are really awake. We have lots of pets (4 small dogs and 3 cats) but it doesn't mater how old they are or how many you have they all bring there own little bundle of love with them when they move into our lives .That bundle stays with us when they leave but for a time it hurts so much .When I had to have two of my cats pass over last year i started to find white feathers in my garden .Maybe there were always feathers in my garden but I chose to believe they were love tokens from my much loved cats .I cant believe that any one that is loved can just stop being when there hart gives out .Hope you have a good trip and heal well.
best wishes
Susan

I am so sorry to hear about BlackJack. At least he isn't in pain any longer.

I really like the atc's. Especially the one on the left. I love seeing that bunny peeking from the grass. I would be happy to trade if you haven't already traded with someone else. Just seeing these are an inspiration to do something fun.

Happy Birthday Jim. Have fun in Greece. You will be inspired by all of that history.

Your garden collage on the header is so pretty. We are behind you in blooms.

Oh Denyse, you were lucky indeed. Thanks for the lovely message.

Sandy is revelling in the uniqueness of being the 'only child' I think! He keeps getting on our bed - which he's not been allowed to do before!

Good to meet youj cambridge jewellery and thanks for the message.

Hi Lisa, I did the ATCs for a swap on Milliande Art Community for Women. You should join. But I'm more than happy to swap ATCs with you any time.

Hi Mildred. So good to hear from yo and thank you.

Aw thanks K.

I clicked over here and saw the title and immediately started to cry. I had to skim the sentences but did note some familiar things.

I'm so sorry Gina. What a short little life.

Do give Jim a birthday bump for me.

Just came across your blog. We too are trying to wrestle with 3 acres of rushy Irish land but I love it. My husband Andy is from Kent, I'm from Tipperary. Ilove connecting with other garden bloggers. It is always sad when an animal has to leave us, the pain does ease.
